My new CD project reflects some of my
experiences. Here’s some of the inspiration for the songs on my
project. “You Inspire Me” was written as the result of staying with
one of my wonderful background singers, Charmaine Cousins (Philip
Bailey, Cevin Fisher, Earth Wind & Fire), she’s
singing on my new CD, and her wonderful husband Walter. This
incredible couple supports and loves me and my talent without
wavering. So much that I felt incredibly strong and uplifted during
my stay in their home for 2 months. This song is my acknowledgement
for their kindness. The interlude “Surrender” was “given to me” at
5:30 a.m. when I was preparing to take a flight for a gig with The
Shirelles, a gig I’ve had for the past 15 years. My mother has
always said “When you don’t know what to do, don’t do anything”
which in my mind means surrender. Hence, the song “Surrender”.
Listeners can expect a journey through my soul as they hear “You”,
and “Soul Mate” where I’m using my summoning powers to call into my
life the romantic love I look forward to experiencing. “If I’d Only
Known” is a song written about the unexpected death of a loved one.
In my case, it’s about my dear friend Claudia Shaughnessy who was
killed instantly in a car accident, and my dad who died suddenly. I
hope when it’s time to perform this one live, I can get through it
without a major breakdown. :(
And this is just a small sampling of
what you can look forward to on my new project. FYI, I am also
working on a blues project which will be dedicated to my ancestors.
I’m writing most of the songs using the sayings that were used in my
family such as, “Who Played That Piece, When You Don’t Know What To
Do, It’s Not That Type of Party”, etc.
Also, I’m co-hosting an internet radio show on
Thursday’s from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. PCT with Carletta Burch. Listen in
at XRadio.biz (www.xradio.biz/lasvegas), where the
emphasis is on independent artists. You can also call in at
877-972-3466. If you know any independent artist that would be
interested in this type of exposure, please feel free to have them
email me. It’s exciting to be on
the radio where my music is able to reach a much wider audience, and
I also get to help independent artists get there music out.
Until my next article,
love yourself and be a blessing to someone else.
