Hadiza Dockeray

Singer/songwriter, Hadiza Dockeray was born and raised in New York City, Hadiza devoted herself to the study of ballet and jazz dance from the age of five and eventually went to France to continue her studies. Deeply moved by that country's love for jazz, blues and soul music, she discovered an inner passion that changed the direction of her life.

With saxophonist Gilles Martin, Hadiza formed the group Blueline, performing classics by Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday and Aretha Franklin, among others. Soon after her return to the U.S., the desire to write her own music took hold. Her experience in France provided the inspiration for Hadiza's song "La Feuille", which translates as "The Leaf" in English. Shaken from a vivid dream one night, she wrote it down immediately, the words all flowing out in French.

Two  of  the  songs  on  Hadiza's  CD  EP,  "My Man" and  "Not
